A well-known English photographer captured the mountain town of Padum and the surrounding monasteries and mountains in the 1990s. One of his most captivating photos I found to be a picture of this mountainside near Padum. When I was there myself for the first time, in 2011, I took an early walk through the fields. The peace, the landscape, the people working in the fields early in the morning gave me a peaceful feeling. And the mountain wall, which the English photographer had dubbed 'The wall' had an alienating effect. Its weathered appearance with intermingling colours gave me the impression of looking at clouds in the distance. The picture hangs in my home as a calming element in a bedroom behind Plexiglas and actually all our guests who stay overnight look at the picture in amazement, wondering what they are looking at. Real encounters with people all over the world have attracted me from childhood. Traveling uninhibitedly unknown countries and continents and making contact with their residents.
