The Beemster is the first so-called polder in the Netherlands: land was reclaimed from a lake, where the water from the lake was taken by windmills. De Beemster was drained in the period 1609-1612. Because of its historical importance and because the original structure of the area is still largely intact, the Beemster was inscribed in 1999 on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I am an enthusiastic photographer with a preference for travel and landscape photography, in color or black / white, on location in the Netherlands or (far) beyond.
