About ‘Through the Rift in Time – Remnants of the Wall. Berlin.’ by Robert Jan Smit

At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a rough concrete wall, pierced by an irregular opening. But on closer inspection, one can see a tangible fragment of the history of the Berlin Wall in Berlin. This crack is not an aesthetic detail, but a scar — a silent witness to a time when a city, and indeed an entire world, was divided by ideology. The Wall, built in 1961, cut right through Berlin and symbolised the hard border between East and West, between the GDR and the Federal Republic. Families were separated, lives abruptly changed. Concrete and barbed wire became instruments of control. What we see here is what remains after that control disappeared: fragility, wear and tear, and ultimately openness. The opening in the wall acts almost as a frame. Through the gap, another image unfolds: a building, a fence, a lamppost — everyday elements of a freely accessible city. The contrast between the massive, closed concrete in the foreground and the open space behind it makes the symbolism powerful and immediate. Where there was once no passage, there is now a view. Where there was once separation, there is now connection. The rusty pieces of iron protruding from the concrete emphasise the transience of even the most rigid structures. Nothing remains untouchable forever. This place reminds us of how important freedom and movement are — and how fragile they can be. This photograph captures not just a section of wall, but above all the transition from closed to open, from past to present. A small opening, but with a big story.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
