A nymph (bride, veiled) is a Greek demigoddess and daimon who lives in nature, and is often bound to a particular place or plant species.
The visual arts depicted the nymphs as graceful girls. They were usually adorned with flowers and wreaths. Usually they are depicted in a light garment. Often they are completely naked.
Here the three women are scarcely clothed and the girls are lying against each other. The first woman is partly topless, so that her shoulder and one tit are naked. The second girl also shows a bare cleavage with one breast exposed. The third model has her back partly bared. Next to them are a sheep, a lamb or a kid, also with flowers around its neck, and at the bottom right a small still life with a basket of grapes and other fruit.
Francois Boucher (Paris, France 29 September 1703 - 30 May 1770) was a painter from the French school of the rococo. In 1723, he won the Grand Prix competition. The artist is known for his lovely, romantic and sweet paintings with sensual undertones.
