This photograph was taken on a gloomy February day on the beach at Beckerwitz in the Wohlenberger Wiek. So what is a Wiek? A Wiek is a smaller, shallower bay or gulf, often located on the Baltic Sea coast. In our case, it is part of the Bay of Wismar, in which the Baltic Sea islands of Poel and Walfisch are located. For me, there is an irrepressible power in this former living being and the hope that many other organisms can participate in this relic and with its help new life can emerge.
