Circassian warrior. Northwest Caucasian ethnic group native to Circassia, who were displaced in the course of the Russian conquest of the Caucasus in the 19th century, especially after the Russian Circassian War in 1864. Travels through Turkey 1862. By Rev. Henry J. Van Lennep, 1815 - 1889. Van Lennep served as a missionary in Smyrna (Izmir) from 1840-1844. He also worked in Constantinople (Istanbul) from 1844 1854 and Tokat from 1854 1856.
