Turquoise and Pink Abstract Painting: Sparks Radiating Outwards by Surreal Media

I see a large, soft shape in turquoise swirling upwards through the painting, surrounded by a cloud of bright pink and orange sparks that burst apart and seem to spin in an orbit. At the top, the light catches a single trail of fine golden sand, which lingers for a moment in the thick, sun-baked texture of the paint before blending back into the colours around it.

The subject is fractals: patterns that repeat themselves, becoming ever smaller yet still recognisable, like the sparks of varying sizes hovering around the large turquoise shape. I was reminded of a Mediterranean summer’s evening, warm and festive, the sort of light in which stylists love to set bright accent colours against a calm background.

The atmosphere is lively and warm, despite the cool turquoise in the centre: the light shines through it so warmly that the whole piece still feels sunny. That interplay evokes precisely the emotions I wanted to capture: joy, energy and wonder – colour that energises you and in which you can lose yourself time and time again.

The texture appears thick and rough, like sun-baked plaster criss-crossed by soft, drawn-out brushstrokes, but this is a digital artwork: the appearance of that texture, created without a wall or trowel.

In a living room, this piece brings movement and a festive atmosphere to a quiet wall; in a dining room, it sparks a conversation about what people see in it; and in a kitchen or office, it offers a moment of wonder amidst the daily grind.
