Two tulips with insects, Jacob Marrel, 1624 - 1681 Jacob Marrel's particular speciality were 'portraits' of flowering tulips. Tulip bulbs were fanatically collected in 17th-century Holland; sometimes staggering prices were paid for a single bulb. The whimsically shaped, red-white and red-and-yellow striped specimens were particularly popular.
