Of Brazil's many beaches, Praia de Lopes Mendez on Ilha Grande is considered one of the most beautiful. This is partly because of its horseshoe-shaped bay, fine white sand and overhanging coconut palms. After walking through the jungle and along the tide line, it was lovely to plop down in the shade of this palm. The palm branches with fine leaves provide coolness, but also let light through. Looking up, this "curtain effect" gives a beautiful play of colours and contrast. I tried to capture that in this photo.
