This image highlights the entrance courtyard of the Van Duc pagoda in Hoi An, dominated by an impressive statue of a laughing Buddha, a symbol of joy and prosperity. Placed at the centre of the composition, the white figure contrasts harmoniously with the greens of the surrounding trees and the ochre sand of the ground. It is framed by two traditional white stone lanterns, reinforcing the sacred axis of symmetry of the site.
On either side, two imposing lions stand guard, embodying protection and spiritual power. In the background, the pagoda's richly decorated roofs, with their bluish tiles and curved ends, are reminiscent of traditional Vietnamese Buddhist architecture. The side gate, adorned with gilded figures, adds a touch of elegance and marks the passageway to the sacred realm.
The sand on the ground and the vegetation give a feeling of space, calm and openness, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities. The overall impression is one of serenity, with each element carefully arranged to create a balance between nature, symbols and spirituality.
