About ‘Venice - San Giorgio Maggiore Church’ by Thomas Bugdoll

The island of San Giorgio Maggiore is a small island in Venice. The larger neighbouring island is called Giudecca and is home to several beautiful churches and an industrial monument. From the Piazzetta at the Doge's Palace you have a beautiful view of the island's scenery, the basilica and the monastery. It is located in the San Marco basin at the outlet of the Canale della Giudecca and can be reached in 5 minutes by vaporetto from San Marco. The monastery and the church on the island have the same name. The island of San Gorgio Maggiore is 490 metres long, up to 320 metres wide and covers an area of about 10 hectares.
