About ‘Venice - St. Mark's Basilica’ by Thomas Bugdoll

The world famous St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) is the most important church in the lagoon city of Venice. The current church was built at the end of the 11th century. Previously, another church stood on this site, which was destroyed by a great fire in 976 AD. The great fire also largely destroyed the neighboring Doge's Palace and 200 other buildings in the center of the city.

San Marco is a church in the Byzantine style. In some later additions one can find elements from other architectural styles, especially Gothic. The cruciform shape of the building and the five huge domes are striking.
On the loggia you can see the famous 4 horses of San Marco. They are copies, the original bronze artwork is in St. Mark's Museum. The horses were brought from Constantinople (now Istanbul) from a crusade in 1204. Also impressive are all the gold and the many mosaics in St. Mark's Basilica, including marble. The mosaics depict the Christian history of salvation. The gigantic scale of the church building and the domes also leave a lasting impression. The highlight for many visitors to St. Mark's Church in Venice is the visit to the Pala d'oro, the gold antependium above the altar. The artwork in the Basilica di San Marco depicts the story of St. Mark. Not to be overlooked is the beautiful ceiling of St. Mark's Basilica.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
