One of the most famous Venetian squares in the world, Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) is framed by a series of spectacular architectural monuments such as St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Campanile.
Another St. Mark's Square beauty is the Torre dell'Orologio clock tower.
Rising at the east end of the Old Procuraties (Procuratie), characterized by colonnades, diagonally opposite St. Mark's Basilica, the tower marks the beginning of the street section Mercerie dell'Orologio.
Here we continue to Venice's Merceria shopping district, which stretches behind St. Mark's Square and is frequented by tourists and locals alike.
