The Vermillion lakes are three lakes just west of Banff in the Canadian Rockies. Especially in the early morning or early evening the lakes are really beautiful. Most tourists are gone by then, the wind dies down creating reflections on the lakes and the warm light falls nicely on the mountains behind the lakes including Mount Rundle. For photographing the sunset, the lakes are not suitable because a mountain range blocks the sun well before sunset. The lakes are easily visited via the Vermillion Lakes Drive, a 5km long road which runs north along the three lakes. There is no lake more beautiful than the other, all three have their own charm.
