? A painted wasp, the so-called "common wasp" (Vespula Vulgaris), which is found throughout Europe as far as Japan. I have painted this fascinating insect naturalistically on an abstract background; a combination of foil technique and gold leaf application. It looks as if the wasp is eating the gold (this is intentional). Original picture size: 40x30 cm on stretcher frame. Belongs in my wildlife series > insects!
