About "View Vermeer in Delft Painting"

by Paul Meijering

About the artwork

Realisitic acrylic portrait of the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer with his painting "Gezicht Op Delft", painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering - the original painting is 90x120 cm

Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch painter in the Golden Age. Vermeer is hailed as one of the greatest painters of the seventeenth century. Vermeer had a preference for timeless, subdued moments. He remains enigmatic for his inimitable colour scheme and bewildering light.

View of Delft is one of the best-known paintings by 17th-century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer. The canvas hangs in the Mauritshuis in The Hague. According to research, it was painted in about 1660-1661.

Vermeer, who lived and worked in Delft throughout his life, painted Het Straatje and this large cityscape there. A third city view once existed, known from an auction catalogue. These three are the only Vermeer paintings that do not depict an interior. He chose a viewpoint in an upstairs house on the Schie in the southeast.
