The Trekvliet near Rijswijk, known as ?Gezicht bij de Geestbrug?, Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch, 1868 A peaceful landscape, painted in bright colours: this early painting by Weissenbruch is still close to Romanticism. But unlike the Romantic painters, Weissenbruch did not adapt this landscape to his imagination, but rendered it topographically correct. The canal the Trekvliet connected The Hague with the nearby villages Rijswijk and Voorburg. Castle De Binckhorst can be seen in the distance on the left and the Laakmolen is on the right.
