The Obidos lagoon is a vast beach lake that extends deep into the region behind the coastline. This lagoon is a large body of water behind the beach and separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a beach embankment. The lagoon is fed with salty ocean water during high tide, while during low tide there is a period of outflow back to the sea. Also, the lagoon is fed from the land by some small rivers so there is supply of fresh and salt water and the mixing of those water types leads to a lake with brackish water the closer it approaches the ocean. There is beautiful nature around the lake, great birdlife, wide range of diverse species of flora.
Also, the lagoon is extremely suitable for many kinds of water sports, there are beautiful sandy beaches near the shore where many people enjoy responsible water fun together with small children. But closer to the coast, in the presence of punishing winds, many people also indulge in Kitesurfing and other wind-borne water sports.
All in all, the atmosphere around this lagoon is great, in sunshine and blue skies it is a fantastic place but even in lesser weather conditions it is a wonderful place to explore on foot and enjoy what nature offers you there. This statue with abandoned old wooden rowing boat, the poles for the fishermen's baskets from times long past, are a representation of the time image of the region where time has stood still in many places.
