Rotterdam's iconic Erasmus Bridge has often been photographed. In this photo, "The Swan" plays a modest role. We see it in between two of the new residential buildings that have sprung up on the Wrist van Katendrecht in recent years.
Modest as it may be, the bridge does appear twice in this photo because, like the residential buildings and the boats on the quay, it is reflected in the water of Maashaven harbour, which on this windless day is only stirred up, out of view, by some water birds.
On either side of the bridge, we see another piece of two iconic buildings in the Kop van Zuid district. On the right, the former KPN tower by architect Renzo Piano, now officially known as De Link. And on the left, De Rotterdam, the city's largest building, designed by Rem Koolhaas.
