A summary is a shortened version of an original, for example a text, a film or an event. The purpose of such a simplification is to highlight the main points of the much longer subject. In this way, the main ideas are presented in a short period of time.
A summary usually begins with an introduction of the title, author, and the main ideas of the text or film. It has a clear structure and is written in a logical, chronological and traceable way. Unlike a resumé and a review, a summary does not contain any interpretation or assessment. Only the opinion of the original author is expressed in his own words without direct quotations from the text. Because summaries should be considerably shorter than the original, less important facts are omitted. The book title is the shortest summary of the text. In the case of a scientific work or dissertation, a summary should be in general scientific language and usually be half a page long.
