The rocks above the Bode Valley near Thale are among the most impressive natural phenomena in the Harz Mountains. This is probably one of the reasons why so many legends have been written here. In addition to the Harz witches' legends, one of which relates to the witches' dance site, which is also located here, there is also the legend of the Rosstrappe. According to this legend, the knight Bodo once pursued the beautiful king's daughter Brunhilde, who jumped over the deep gorge on a white horse, while her pursuer died below these rocks.
According to this legend, the stone hoofprint known as the Rosstrappe is a popular excursion and hiking destination today. However, this depression in the rock is not particularly impressive, but you are rewarded with an excellent view of the Bode valley with the Witches' Dance Place opposite and the flat Harz foreland.
