Visit of Minerva to the Muses, Hendrick van Balen, Joos de Momper, Jan Brueghel the Elder
Hendrick van Balen I painted the figures in this painting, Joos de Momper II took care of the landscape and Jan Brueghel I took care of the flowers. On the left you see the goddess Minerva visiting the Muses on Mount Helikon, near the Gulf of Corinth. On the right rises the Hippocrene, a sacred spring that brought inspiration to everyone who drank it or bathed in it. According to the myth, it was the horse Pegasus who stomped the spring with his hooves out of the ground.
