This atmospheric photo shows the famous Vrijthof in Maastricht on an early morning. On the left is the striking red Sint-Janskerk, next to it the Romanesque Sint-Servaasbasiliek - the oldest surviving church in the Netherlands. The former capitular house (Spaans Gouvernement) can be seen on the right. The warm light of the rising sun bathes the historic architecture in a golden atmosphere and lends the square a unique tranquillity.
