The full length of the Waal bridge is 604 meters, and he's in the middle of the bow about 65 feet high. The main span, the arch itself, is 244.10 meters long, and at the time was the longest arch tension in Europe.

Unlike many other bridges of the same period and with the same construction as the IJsselbrug near Zwolle, the Graafsebrug and bridge at Arnhem Waalbrug unique because it is an arch bridge in the literal sense of the word; the transfer of the powers actually rest in the two pillars.

On the western side of the Waal Bridge is a bus lane. The bridge has a bike lane on both sides with a narrow pedestrian lane. The bridge used to be green, from 1980 he was painted light beige.

In 1906 began the Committee "Nijmegen Forward" with making plans for the construction of the Waal Bridge, but the outbreak of the First World War threw a spanner in the works. In 1927, the final plans were made and on October 23, 1931 the construction of the bridge began, according to a design by architect G. Schoorl.

On June 16, 1936 the bridge was opened by Queen Wilhelmina in the presence of 200,000 interested.
