The photo shows the imposing Wachsenburg, majestically enthroned above a tranquil lake. The castle is reflected in the clear water of the lake and is surrounded by a dense belt of reeds. The picture was taken shortly after sunrise, allowing the warm light of the rising sun to bathe the lake, the castle and the morning haze in an enchanting glow.
Wachsenburg Castle rises proudly on a hill and impresses with its massive walls and towers. It is considered one of the Drei Gleichen, a group of three castles in Thuringia whose legends are closely connected.
According to legend, the three castles - in addition to Wachsenburg Castle, Mühlburg Castle and Gleichen Castle - were built by three brothers. Each of the brothers wanted to present his castle as the most beautiful and powerful. To achieve this, they made a pact with the devil. The devil promised them to build their castles within one night if they would give him their souls in return.
The brothers agreed and began to build their castles. But when they realised that the devil would keep his promise, they deeply regretted their decision. In desperation, they prayed to God for help. He heard their prayers and turned the brothers into three rocks so that they no longer had to belong to the devil.
Since then, the Drei Gleichen have stood as silent witnesses to this legend in Thuringia. The Wachsenburg, with its impressive reflection in the lake and the warm morning light, conveys a mystical atmosphere in the photo and reminds us of the fascinating history of the Drei Gleichen.
Welcome to my shop. I'm Christian and I've been taking pictures since about 2015. I like the light and the quietness of the morning and evening hours and try to capture them in my pictures.
My pictures are taken on trips, day hikes or right in front of my door...
