Watercolour of the Plompe Toren on Schouwen-Duiveland, Zeeland. The Plompe Toren is a church tower just behind the Oosterschelde dike. It is the only remnant of the now vanished village of Koudekerke. Due to the northward advance of the Scheldt, a new dike had to be built. This was done in 1581 right through the village. The church tower has served as a beacon for shipping ever since.
