This immense system of meltwater drains at the foot of a mountain on Svalbard resembles the root system of a tree. Zooming in on it so much makes it a more abstract image.
All the meltwater from the glacier on the mountain is drained into the valley through the many branches and eventually drained to the sea through the many streams and rivers through the valley.
The mountain slopes are barren except for lichens and other small vegetation.
