Where Summer Blooms Gently by Color Square

The work depicts a lush field of flowers that unfolds from a densely overgrown foreground, becoming increasingly airier as it rises upwards. White, pale blue and subtle pink flowers are scattered amongst countless green stems and leaves. Some flowers are rendered in vivid detail, whilst others, with loose brushstrokes, almost dissolve into the background. This creates a lovely contrast between recognisable details and impressionistic suggestion. The vertical movement in the work is striking. A few long, slender stems rise above the sea of flowers, bearing small umbels and buds. The tall white flowers at the top, in particular, seem almost to float in the soft blue-green sky. The empty space around these stems gives the composition breathing room and enhances the sense of a light summer breeze.
Up close, the small splashes of colour stand out: blue hides amongst the white and green, whilst powdery touches of pink add warmth. Dark leaves and flower centres provide contrast and lend greater depth to the otherwise soft colour palette.
The work evokes the atmosphere of a wild flower garden or a summery flower meadow, but without strict botanical realism. It is precisely the loose painting style, visible brushstrokes and fading shapes that lend the image a dreamlike quality. The result is a romantic and atmospheric nature piece in which flowers, greenery and blue combine to evoke a sense of tranquillity, freedom and endless summer.
