Where the golden leaves fall

by Annette Schmucker

The painting depicts an atmospheric autumnal landscape with numerous trees ablaze in warm, vibrant colours. Particularly striking are the rich shades of red, orange and yellow on the left-hand side of the picture, which form a beautiful contrast to the delicate shades of pink and violet on the right-hand side. In the centre of the picture, a bright clearing opens up, through which gentle sunlight shines. Tall, slender trees line both sides of the landscape, some of which are reflected in the still water. In the foreground, one can make out a lake or a wide river, the surface of which reflects the vibrant colours of the surroundings. The reflections in the water appear soft and blurred, creating a sense of tranquillity. On the horizon, the trees blend into the bright sky, conveying a sense of depth and vastness. The colours flow seamlessly into one another, creating an almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere. The loose and, in places, blurred brushstrokes make the painting seem like a dream or a memory of a golden autumn day. Overall, the painting exudes a peaceful, warm and, at the same time, somewhat mysterious atmosphere.
