Wild Rose

by Liese Sijbom

In this picturesque floral composition, dark roses and slender flower stems stand out against a warm background of dusky pink, soft peach and mauve. The flowers are rendered in expressive, loose brushstrokes, causing their shapes to emerge almost as silhouettes. In the background, the colours blend into one another, with lighter areas reminiscent of the last rays of sunlight breaking through the sky. The delicate branches, tiny flower buds and whimsical leaf shapes lend the work a natural and lively character.

The inspiration for this work lies in the beauty of a flower-filled garden as the day slowly gives way to evening. The interplay between light and dark, the layering of colours and the free brushwork capture a fleeting moment in nature. The flowers are not rendered in minute detail; rather, it is precisely the loose forms and visible texture that give the whole piece its own distinctive character.

The warm dusky pink and peach tones bring softness to the composition, whilst the deep plum and burgundy colours provide contrast and depth. This creates a romantic, somewhat mysterious atmosphere that feels both soothing and expressive. This piece fits beautifully into an interior where warm colours, natural forms and art with a painterly quality come together.
