What a beautiful nature the Netherlands has, this is National Park the Veluwezoom near Rheden. If you look closely, you can see wild horses in the landscape. I had come here specifically to capture the beautiful moorland, but the wild horses in the beautiful morning light was altogether a gift.

The Posbank is a picturesque nature reserve in Veluwezoom National Park, located in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. The area is known for its varied landscape, which includes heathlands, forests and sand drifts. One of the highlights of Posbank is the viewpoint on a hill 90 metres above sea level, from where visitors can admire a breathtaking panorama.

The heathlands of Posbank are a particular attraction in late summer, when the heather plants bloom and cover the landscape with a vast carpet of purple flowers. This colourful spectacle attracts many walkers and nature lovers. Management of the heathland is essential to maintain this beauty; this includes mowing, ploughing and controlled fires to prevent it from being overgrown by woodland.

The area is also home to wild horses, often Exmoor ponies or similar robust breeds. These animals play an important role in nature management by keeping the landscape open. They graze on the grass and saplings, keeping the heath from becoming overgrown with trees and bushes. This grazing management is crucial for maintaining the biodiversity and flowering of the heathland.
