The work was probably painted in the vicinity of Lebbeke, a town and municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality lies in the Dender region and the Land of Dendermonde, with snow on the fields and a number of farms and houses visible through the bare trees.
The limited colour palette enhances the winter feel of the scene. The work has been slightly digitally retouched.
