View of De Slufter nature reserve on Texel. One of the Dutch wadden islands.
Dune landscape watercolour on paper by Dutch artist, illustrator and writer Hans Sturris. Painted in 1992. The original watercolour measures 56x37 cm.
The Slufter is a unique area open to the North Sea. It consists of a creek system that is sometimes flooded after a storm. It is home to salt-tolerant plants such as saltmarsh, glasswort, the fragrant sea wormwood and sea lavender, whose flowers turn the entire area purple in summer.
Most of De Slufter is managed as a bird breeding and roosting area. From the Sluftertrap, you can follow the path to the beach.
This watercolour is part of a series of paintings on the theme of dunes and the North Sea. All painted by Hans around 1991.
