About the artwork

Zoutkamp harbour area.

Zoutkamp was situated on a strategic location at the mouth of the Reitdiep in the Lauwerszee. Until the Eemskanaal was completed in 1876, this was the only access to the city of Groningen from the sea. During the Eighty Years' War a Spanish garrison was stationed here. In 1576 the entrenchment Soltecampe was built as a stronghold for the troops of the Spanish king. In the following years plundering trips were made to the villages near Zoutkamp by Sea Beggars, which were under the administration of the later Republic of the Seven United Provinces, and Warfhuizen and Zuurdijk were set on fire. The rebels also made plans to conquer the fortresses and defences in the Ommelanden in order to attack the city of Groningen. In october 1589 Willem Lodewijk sailed with 400 men from Oostmahorn to Soltkamp and conquered this place during the Battle of Zoutkamp. Zoutkamp was a military fortress where mainly soldiers lived. The village had its own minister around 1600 and probably a garrison church.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
