Near the lovely coastal town of Polignano a Mare in the south of Italy is the San Vito Abbey. The Benedictine abbey was designed in the 10th century and is still inhabited. At the moment there are still 88 monks living there. In front of the abbey there is a beautiful little beach which in summer is a popular place for the local Italians. Unfortunately you can't visit the abbey from the inside if you're in the neighbourhood, then a short trip can't be missed.
