An unusually large group of Bewick's Swans has gathered in a snow-covered field. The birds are crowded together.
The sociable Bewick's Swans standing excitedly together, all craning their necks. Generally, this is a sign of special attention. Here, it was because they had just flown in. One group after the other landed in the field. Each new arrival was greeted with loud calls. The photograph stands out above all because of the special, rarely observed motif of a large group of Bewick's Swans.
The fact that the swans are almost all standing together next to each other in the plane of focus is really extraordinary.
The picture is also convincing because of the graphic effect and the reduced colours of the white, slightly hazy snowy landscape.
