the water got the upper hand
drowned the trees and the land
with its unruffled chill
in the air hangs heavy a palpable silence
that is suddenly heartbreakingly disturbed
by crane calls heard loudly from afar
a dead tree briefly comes to life
as the swallows, who first float by
quietly sway the bare branches
When a harrier flies over
All the water birds take flight
and the skies are briefly chaotic
Although the calm disappeared for a while
The water still serenely reflected
the world as it appeared to her
