Chernobyl on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Truus Nijland

Pripyat, a small town close to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. It should become a model city that the Ukrainian Soviet Republic could be proud of. The city had just existed for 16 years and was intended for the workforce of the nuclear power plant where at least 1 family member worked in the nuclear power plant itself. The town had everything a young family could wish for, schools for young and older children, a cinema, a theater, childcare and even a children's camp. A real hospital, a fire station and a hotel made the whole into a fully-fledged city. And now, years later, Pipyat has been engulfed by nature. Large tall trees and shrubs obscure the view of all buildings. Wide streets are now narrow paths where the trees and shrubs grow between the concrete. There is no longer a path to get to a building, you try to find a path through the trees and bushes. It is dead quiet, you can hardly even hear birds. We spent 5 days in the zone where we walked around in amazement and silence.
