Grote or Sint-Stephanuskerk, Hasselt on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Rossum-Fotografie

Before 1380 there was already a parish church in Hasselt, but it was destroyed by fire in that year. [1] Floris van Wevelinkhoven, bishop of Utrecht, immediately gave permission for the rebuilding of the church building. A part of the new church was built in the 14th century, probably including the main choir. [2] For the construction of the church, the foundations of the ruined Romanesque church building were used. In 1446 / '47 the city helped to build the rear part of the church by donating 'Hasselter Guilders' among other things. The largest part of the church stood in 1466. At the end of the 15th century the two choirs were also finished.
