In dit album staan foto's van vliegtuigen die in dienst zijn of waren bij de KLM. De Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij is de nationale luchtvaartmaatschappij en één van de tien grootste werkgevers van Nederland. De thuishaven van de KLM is Schiphol. De KLM opereert wereldwijd en vormt de kern van de KLM Groep, waarvan ook KLM Cityhopper, Martinair en Transavia deel uitmaken. De KLM is in 2004 gefuseerd met Air France tot de holding Air France-KLM. Onder de holding zijn KLM en Air France beide actief als netwerkmaatschappij. De KLM behaalt haar omzet uit drie kernactiviteiten: vervoer van passagiers, vrachtvervoer en vliegtuigonderhoud. Op dinsdag 7 oktober 1919 werd de 'Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij voor Nederland en Koloniën' opgericht bij akte in het notariskantoor van mr. H. Stoop in Den Haag. Het startkapitaal van 1,2 miljoen gulden werd gefourneerd door acht zakenlieden, onder wie Frits Fentener van Vlissingen en Anton Kröller. De luitenant-vlieger Albert Plesman werd administrateur en later directeur. Koningin Wilhelmina verleende op 12 september 1919 het predicaat ‘Koninklijk' aan de KLM in oprichting. Het eerste KLM-kantoor werd op 21 oktober 1919 aan de Herengracht in Den Haag geopend. Hiermee is de KLM de oudste onder haar oorspronkelijke naam opererende luchtvaartmaatschappij.
