Pop Art on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Lauren Wilde

Pop art is an art movement that speaks to me because of its boldness, energy and recognisability. Emerging in the 1950s and 1960s, pop art deliberately turned away from distant, abstract art and instead focused on everyday life. Advertising, comics, television, packaging and icons from popular culture suddenly became subjects of art. What everyone recognised was allowed to be seen. What makes pop art so powerful is its use of bright colours, clear shapes and repetition. Images become almost graphic, direct and sometimes confrontational, yet always accessible. It is art that plays with recognition and surprise, consciously blurring the line between so-called ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture. Art does not have to be complicated or elitist; it can also be fun, sharp and visually striking. Artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein shaped this movement and showed how influential images from mass media can be. In this album, I bring together pop art works that carry the same energy and playful spirit. Colourful, outspoken and with a wink to the world around us.
