About Kees de Winter
Kees de Winter is my name. I know myself as a curious and creative person. That is exactly why I became a photographer. For me, photography is exploring, probing, discovering and being surprised by beauty.
I was a pastor for more than twelve years. When I noticed within that position that my joy of discovery began to dry up, I started to shift my course. My language needed more imagery.
The choice of photography presented itself naturally, but I did not take any chances. I took the path to photography via the Fotovakschool in Rotterdam and the School for Photography in Utrecht.
A choice for clear images, then. Yet I am still a book person. I like to enrich my world view by reading history, philosophy, geopolitics, science. Because your gaze is not automatically focused on what is in front of your eyes.
But I want to look! To shape my gaze, to give my eyes a look. My camera teaches me that: Looking ... and getting story.
