I started taking photographs in the summer of 1988. With a borrowed camera, I went in search of a motif in my home town and the first thing I photographed was a manhole cover. At the time, I had no idea that this would be the first image in a very diverse series of manhole cover photographs. Exhibitions of these works eventually led to the first photo commissions.
Events and portraits are still my main focus in commissioned photography today, most recently at festivals, workshops, retreats and concerts that have a spiritual and transformative character. I love documenting these profound moments of transformation and communicating them photographically.
My portraits are also about authenticity and truthfulness. Especially in times of AI, these values are becoming increasingly important. I believe that making the soul visible through the body is the great art of portrait photography. This, in turn, is only possible with empathy and sensitivity towards the situation and the emotional state of the person being portrayed. That's why I coined the term "empathic photography" for myself.
In my freelance work and projects, I give free rein to my creativity with conceptual nude photography, fine art, street photography and landscape photography. Because long live diversity! It is my credo - also stylistically, by the way. My subject determines its design and not the other way round. As I said: Long live diversity! : )
