Under a brilliant blue, cloudless sky, "De Gouden Hand", the historic early 17th-century brewery, stands proudly in the centre of Dokkum. The building is a magnificent example of Dutch Renaissance architecture, with its tall stepped gables, ornate sandstone ornaments and gold-gilded details that glisten in the sunlight. The facade is richly decorated with stone carvings that festively embellish the facade, as a tribute to the city of Dokkum and its prosperity. The 1743 sign denotes a later renovation.
At the centre of the façade, a large, gilded hand - the iconic symbol of the brewery - stands radiantly against the blue sky, as if extending prosperity and hospitality. A signboard reads "The Golden Hand" in ornate letters, framed by fine carvings.
The atmosphere is festive, almost fairytale-like: the building is richly decorated as if celebrating a special moment. In the background, the roofs of Dokkum rise up, while the golden hand seems to rise above everything else, a symbol of dedication and ambition. The thought of an investment of 600 caroliguldens floats around the building like an invisible echo - a testament to the high stakes of a golden dream.
