About ‘A free spirit’ by Geert Van Baelen

The colourful patchwork clothing forms a lively contrast with the rough, layered background. Thick, tangible brushstrokes give the work an almost sculptural quality and emphasise the power of the expression.

For this work, I started with a photograph I had taken myself and then digitally edited.

The result is a powerful, painterly image of individuality and freedom. The rich colours, textures and movement in the painting invite the viewer not only to look, but also to feel. This work captures a moment of human spontaneity and translates it into a visual celebration of character, culture and expression.
