A mother thoroughly examines her child for lice. They are in a plain Dutch interior, with Delft blue tiles and a bedstead. In the front right is a "kakstoel," a highchair with a built-in pointer. Through the door is a glimpse of the sunny back room and garden. These kinds of vistas were De Hooch's specialty
