Sometimes an image is created precisely by leaving almost everything out. In this minimalist photograph, a dark stone rises from a silky-smooth water’s surface. The use of a slow shutter speed removes ripples and movement from the image, transforming the water into an almost ethereal expanse. The stone remains the only tangible form and therefore immediately draws all the attention.

What inspired me was the power of simplicity. Whilst taking the photograph, I was struck by the tranquillity that this single stone radiated amidst a seemingly endless void. There are no distractions, no hustle and bustle, only form, texture and silence. It is precisely this that creates space for personal interpretation. For some, the stone symbolises steadfastness; for others, a moment of reflection or the strength to rise above the flow of everyday life. The soft shades of grey and minimalist composition give the work a serene and timeless quality. The subtle reflection beneath the stone enhances the sense of balance and tranquillity. The piece invites you to pause for a moment and experience a moment of calm.
