This work is a digital oil painting created from a photograph I took myself during a summer evening in Volendam. Using digital techniques, I transformed the original shot into an impressionistic rendering, in which brushstrokes and colour contrasts give a new dimension to the familiar harbour.
The characteristic wooden houses with their red roofs and the row of sailing boats on the quay are framed by a sky full of warm and cool tones that alternate, as if the evening sun plays one last game with the surface of the water. The result is a painting that not only shows reality but also evokes the atmosphere and feeling of the moment: the calmness of the harbour, the reflection of the light in the water and the unique charm of Volendam on a summer evening.
