Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) was an important French painter, a pioneer of modern art and a key figure in the development of Cubism. His unique style, characterised by thick brushstrokes and geometric forms, revolutionised the art of his time. Cézanne is particularly known for his still lifes, landscapes and the numerous depictions of Mont Sainte-Victoire. His work broke with traditional conventions, influenced artists such as Picasso and Braque and secured him posthumous recognition as a key figure of the 19th century.
