The Doove Gat is a nature reserve of about 50 ha. located SE of the village Haastrecht in Zuid-Holland.
The official name of the area is "Hoge Boezem Achter Haastrecht". This name is related to the function of the area until the beginning of the last century, namely a high polder - higher than the low polder, the river Vlist - in which the excess water of the Lopiker- and Krimpenerwaard was pumping before it was discharged via a lock into the Hollandse IJssel. This function ceased in 1914 when a steam-powered pumping station began grinding the water from the Vlist into the Hollandse IJssel. The name "Doove Gat" comes from the ditch of the same name along the eastern quay of the Hoge Boezem.
